Placing a limit order in the OKX app: the order form field by field
The OKX app's trade screen packs a lot into a small space. A walk through each field of the spot limit order form, from price and amount to the percentage slider and advanced options, and how to check the order afterwards.
OKX | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | application origin and signature checks
On a phone screen, the OKX trade page shows a chart, the order book and the order form all at once, and it is easy to tap the wrong thing. Many first trades go wrong not because of the market but because of the form: a market order placed by accident, a price typed in the amount field, or a slider pushed to the full balance. Taking the form apart once, field by field, makes every later trade faster and calmer. The steps below use a spot pair such as BTC against USDT.
Open the right market and side
Tap Trade and make sure you are in Spot, not in a futures or margin mode, by checking the label at the top of the screen. Select the trading pair from the pair name at the top left. Choose Buy or Sell; the colour of the main button changes with the side, which is a useful last check. Below that, open the order type selector and pick Limit, since the default may be Market or whatever you used last.
Price, amount and total
In the price field, enter the price you are willing to pay or accept. Tapping a level in the order book usually fills it in for you, which reduces typing mistakes. In the amount field, enter how much of the coin you want, or switch to entering the total in USDT if the app offers that toggle. The percentage slider fills the amount as a share of your available balance; use it with care, because one swipe to the end commits everything.
Advanced options before you confirm
Below the main fields you may find options such as attaching take-profit and stop-loss to the order, and time-in-force settings such as Post only. Post only ensures the order only rests in the book and is cancelled if it would fill immediately, which matters if you are aiming for the maker rate. Your current maker and taker rates are listed on the OKX fees page under your fee tier. Check the estimated total and the side once more, then tap the button.
Check the order after placing it
Scroll down to the open orders section or open the orders page. The order should show with your price, amount and status. If it does not appear, it may have filled immediately, so look in order history as well. From open orders you can cancel or amend. After it fills, the trade history shows the actual price, fee and whether it executed as maker or taker, which tells you whether your settings worked as intended.
